What Purplle is worth ordering for

Purplle is the other large beauty marketplace in India alongside Nykaa, and it leans further into mass-market and own-label products — it acquired the Faces Canada cosmetics business in 2021 and builds a good deal of its range in-house. For someone abroad, the pull is rarely a brand that exists everywhere. It is the things formulated for Indian buyers and priced for the Indian market: kajal, kumkumadi and ubtan, henna and ayurvedic hair oils, and foundation and concealer in shades that a Western chemist simply does not stock.

That last point is the real one. Mass-market ranges abroad thin out badly at deeper and more olive tones, and the Indian market is where those shades are the middle of the range rather than the end of it. Air freight refuses flammable, pressurised and alcohol-based goods:

Travels fine: powders and pressed compacts, kajal and pencils, lipsticks and balms, sheet masks, most creams, serums and oils in sealed containers, henna, ubtan and dry ayurvedic preparations, brushes and tools.

Beauty is heavy for its size

Cotton clothing is the cheapest thing we forward; beauty is not. Glass bottles, heavy jars and the cardboard-and-plastic packaging around them add up quickly, and a modest-looking basket of skincare can weigh more than a stack of kurtas. Air freight charges on whichever is greater, actual weight or size, so the packaging counts twice.

The site opens anywhere and whether it will deliver to your address abroad varies and can change, so check at your own checkout. Where it will not, order to your Indian address instead. Purplle is worth the trouble for a narrower reason than the big marketplaces: it leans hard on Indian-owned beauty brands and its own labels, which is exactly the part of the catalogue that has no shelf in a shop near you.

The same air-freight rules apply as to any beauty order, and they are worth reading once. Perfume, nail polish and remover, aerosols and pressurised cans cannot travel by air in an ordinary consignment to any country. Creams, oils, serums, powders, shampoos and colour cosmetics are all fine.
