Shop Indian stores from Japan, delivered to your door
Japan’s Indian community — more than fifty thousand Indian nationals — is concentrated in Tokyo, especially Edogawa ward, with older trading families in Kobe and Yokohama and a large technology workforce. Indian groceries exist in the big cities; clothing, books and regional products are very hard to find.
Yes — you can shop Indian websites from Japan even when they will not deliver there. India Rabbit is a package forwarding company that gives you a free Indian delivery address in Kerala. Order to it from Amazon.in, Flipkart, Myntra or any Indian shop, and we receive each parcel, hold it free for 30 days, combine everything into one box and forward it to Japan — typically 4 to 6 business days from dispatch. You pay for the international shipment only. From India to Japan, a 1 kg parcel starts at ₹4,850 (about JPY 8,035), and the rate per kilo falls as the box fills: about ₹2,190 (about JPY 3,628) per kg for a 5 kg box and ₹1,650 (about JPY 2,734) per kg for 20 kg, on Premium, with GST and payment charges included. We charge in rupees; the JPY figures are approximate, at this week's exchange rate. Forwarding one box to Japan runs about ₹4,000–5,500 for 1 kg and ₹10,000–12,000 for 5 kg by direct courier. Ranges worked out 2026-11-02, not quotes, and duty at your end is separate.

Why one box beats five parcels
International shipping is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, and every parcel carries that cost separately. Five 1 kg parcels to Japan are priced as five shipments; repacked into one 4 kg box — packaging stripped, which is where the fifth kilo goes — they are priced as one. That is the difference between the 1 kg row above multiplied by five and the 5 kg row on its own.
Premium or Economy to Japan?
Premium is a direct courier with end-to-end tracking and priority customs handling. Economy is consolidated and takes a few days longer for a lower price. Typical transit to Japan is 4 to 6 business days from dispatch; Economy sits at the longer end of that. Both are tracked. More on choosing Premium or Economy and on how long shipping from India takes.
Shop from India to Japan — what people actually buy
Japan runs 100V — 50Hz in the east, 60Hz in the west — on flat two-pin sockets, so an Indian 230V appliance needs a step-down transformer, not just an adapter, and most people simply do not send them. Clothing, books, spices and sealed vegetarian snacks travel well. Keeping a box under JPY 10,000 avoids the tax entirely.
- Festival and wedding clothing
- Indian-language and children’s books
- Spices and packaged vegetarian food
- Pooja items
Parcels valued at JPY 10,000 or less are exempt from duty and consumption tax. Meat, dairy, eggs and fresh produce are blocked by quarantine, and medicines and cosmetics are limited to personal-use quantities.
We deliver door to door across Japan, including Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe and Osaka.
Customs and restrictions
Parcels valued at JPY 10,000 or less are exempt from duty and consumption tax; leather bags, knitwear and leather shoes are excluded from the exemption, and parcels from the same sender arriving together are added up. Above the threshold: 10% consumption tax (8% on food) plus duty. The recipient usually pays before delivery. Illegal plant or fruit imports carry penalties of up to 3 years or JPY 3 million.
Not accepted
- Meat products (ham, sausage, jerky), dairy and eggs without a government export inspection certificate — in practice, do not send
- Soil, fresh fruit and vegetables
- Stimulant-type medicines and narcotics without prior permission
- Counterfeit goods and obscene material
- Firearms and explosives
Allowed with conditions
- Prescription medicines — up to 1 month's supply without an Import Confirmation
- OTC and quasi-drugs — up to 2 months' supply
- Cosmetics — up to 24 pieces per item
- Seeds and seedlings — phytosanitary certificate from the exporting country
- Nicotine e-liquid — treated as a medicine, about 1 month's supply
Import duty and local taxes are decided by Japan customs and collected by the carrier on delivery. They are never part of our shipping quote.

Shipping from India to Japan — questions
Is there a package forwarding company that gives me an Indian address and ships to Japan?
Yes. India Rabbit is a package forwarding company that gives you a free Indian address at its warehouse in Kerala, with your own suite code. You shop Indian websites to it, and it combines your parcels into one box and ships them to Japan, typically 4 to 6 business days after dispatch.
Can I get Indian products delivered to Japan when the shop only ships within India?
Yes. Order to your India Rabbit address as an ordinary customer in India. We receive the parcel at our warehouse in Kerala, hold it free for 30 days while your other orders arrive, and forward everything to Japan in one box.
How do I shop from India and ship to Japan?
Sign up free and you get an Indian delivery address in Kerala with your own suite code. Use it as the shipping address at checkout on Amazon.in, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Ajio and most other Indian stores. When your parcels reach us we let you know, and you choose when to have them forwarded to Japan.
How much does it cost to send a parcel from India to Japan per kg?
What you pay depends on the finished weight and size after we repack your parcels into one; the table on this page shows indicative totals by parcel weight for Premium and Economy, with our handling, GST and payment charges included. The calculator gives the exact figure for your box.
Can I send a courier from India to Japan with India Rabbit?
Yes. Order from Indian shops to your India Rabbit address, or have family in India send things there by any domestic courier. We receive and photograph every parcel, combine everything into one box and ship it to Japan with tracking, typically 4 to 6 business days after dispatch.
What is the cheapest way to ship from India to Japan?
Order everything to your Indian address first and have it forwarded as one box. International shipping is charged per shipment on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so five parcels sent separately cost far more than the same goods repacked together. Where we run an Economy lane to Japan, it is cheaper again than direct courier in exchange for a few more days in transit.
How long does delivery to Japan take?
Typically 4 to 6 business days from the day your consolidated shipment leaves our warehouse, plus customs clearance at your end. Time in storage before you request shipping does not count towards that.
How much can I save by combining parcels?
International shipping is priced on weight and size, so five separate parcels cost far more than one. We repack everything into a single box and strip unnecessary packaging to cut volumetric weight. The saving scales with how bulky the original packaging was — up to 80% on bulky retail boxes, considerably less on small dense items.
Will I pay customs duty in Japan?
Parcels valued at JPY 10,000 or less are exempt from duty and consumption tax; leather bags, knitwear and leather shoes are excluded from the exemption, and parcels from the same sender arriving together are added up. Above the threshold: 10% consumption tax (8% on food) plus duty. The recipient usually pays before delivery. Illegal plant or fruit imports carry penalties of up to 3 years or JPY 3 million. Duty is charged by the customs authority in Japan, not by India Rabbit.
What can I not forward to Japan?
Prohibited for Japan: Meat products (ham, sausage, jerky), dairy and eggs without a government export inspection certificate — in practice, do not send; Soil, fresh fruit and vegetables; Stimulant-type medicines and narcotics without prior permission; Counterfeit goods and obscene material; Firearms and explosives; Cash, currency, cheques, bullion, and loose precious stones. Check before you order.
How long will you hold my parcels?
30 days free from the day each parcel arrives, which is enough to finish a sale-season order and send it all together. Storage can be extended for a fee if you need longer.
Do I need an Indian card or phone number?
For most stores your own card works fine. Where a store insists on an Indian payment method, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you what is possible.
