Why this is hard to buy where you are

A Kerala wedding is not one purchase, it is thirty. The bride's kasavu or kalyana saree, sarees for mothers and aunts, sets for the girls, mundus for the men, and a running list that changes for six weeks. Doing that from abroad through diaspora shops means paying a heavy markup on a narrow selection and still not finding half of it. Doing it by asking relatives in Kerala means someone else making your decisions and then paying courier charges per parcel. The third option is to shop the Kerala shops yourself, at Kerala prices, and have the whole list arrive together.

What to check before you order

Order earlier than feels necessary. Kerala's retailers and Kerala's couriers hit capacity in the same weeks — around Onam, and through the main wedding months — and that is exactly when you will be ordering.
Buy the bride's saree first and match to it. Cream and gold vary more between shops than photographs suggest, and the family's pieces are easier to match to a saree you already have than the other way round.
Blouse pieces are usually unstitched and included, but stitching is local. Budget time for a tailor at your end, or arrange it in Kerala before the parcel is collected.
Several people can send to the same India Rabbit address. A family buying across five shops pays for one box, not five parcels.
Keep the order list somewhere shared. The most common wedding forwarding problem is not customs, it is two people buying the same thing.

Weight

A full wedding order is genuinely heavy — fifteen to twenty pieces will run 8–15kg. This is the case where consolidation stops being a convenience and becomes most of the saving, because a single 12kg box costs a fraction of six separate parcels.

Volume

Sarees and sets pack dense and flat, so even a large wedding order is usually charged on actual weight. Heavily embellished bridal pieces with box packaging are the exception — tell us and we will repack if it is safe to.

Customs

A large textile shipment is still a textile shipment, but the declared value will be high enough that duty is near-certain almost everywhere. Budget for it from the start. Check what your destination allows.

Condition

Flag the bridal piece specifically on the pre-alert. It is the one item in the box that cannot be replaced in time, and we will pack it accordingly rather than treating the box as uniform.

Can several family members send to my India Rabbit address?

Yes, and for a wedding that is the sensible way to use it. Everything bought for one wedding, from any number of shops and by any number of people, arrives at one address and leaves as one box.

How long can I keep collecting before I ship?

Storage is free for the first 30 days and can be extended twice, to 90 days in total. That is the window a wedding list actually needs — buy as things appear, ship once.

When should I start ordering for a wedding?

Sooner than you think, and earlier still if the date is near Onam. Kerala's shops and Kerala's couriers are at capacity in the same weeks, and a delay at either end lands on the same deadline.

Will I pay duty on a full wedding order?

Almost certainly, because the declared value will be well above most countries' thresholds. Work it into the budget.

Can I get blouses stitched in Kerala before it ships?

That is between you and the shop, and many will arrange it. If they do, allow for the extra days in the shop's hands before the parcel reaches us — the tailoring, not the shipping, is usually what runs late.
