Shop Indian stores from Sri Lanka, delivered to your door

Sri Lanka is India’s nearest neighbour across the sea, with a large, long-settled community of Indian origin — the hill-country Tamils of the tea estates — and Indian professionals in Colombo. Much of what people want from India is made a short distance away in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and still is not sold in Colombo.

Why one box beats five parcels

International shipping is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, and every parcel carries that cost separately. Five 1 kg parcels to Sri Lanka are priced as five shipments; repacked into one 4 kg box — packaging stripped, which is where the fifth kilo goes — they are priced as one. That is the difference between the 1 kg row above multiplied by five and the 5 kg row on its own.

Premium or Economy to Sri Lanka?

Premium is a direct courier with end-to-end tracking and priority customs handling. Economy is consolidated and takes a few days longer for a lower price. Typical transit to Sri Lanka is 4 to 6 business days from dispatch; Economy sits at the longer end of that. Both are tracked. More on choosing Premium or Economy and on how long shipping from India takes.

Shop from India to Sri Lanka — what people actually buy

Sri Lanka runs 230V, and many sockets take the same round-pin plug as India alongside the British three-pin, so most Indian appliances work with little or no adapter. Because duty and levies stack on the value, this is a lane for considered orders rather than impulse ones: a wedding saree, a set of books or a festival order travels better than a box of everyday things that are already sold locally.

  • Sarees and wedding clothing
  • Tamil and Malayalam books
  • Ayurvedic and personal-care products
  • Pooja items and festival supplies

Sri Lanka charges customs duty, an 18% VAT and further levies on most imports. Genuine gifts have a small allowance; medicines need NMRA authorisation, and publications that insult any religion are prohibited.

We deliver door to door across Sri Lanka, including Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna and Nuwara Eliya.

Customs and restrictions

Bona fide gifts and personal items are free of customs duty up to LKR 15,000 and of VAT up to LKR 10,000; other levies still apply. The recipient pays charges before release. If Customs holds a parcel, the recipient is notified and must attend the examination in person. Sri Lanka Customs never asks for payment by SMS, email or phone call.

Not accepted

  • Narcotics and psychotropic substances
  • Pornographic material
  • Publications that insult any religion or religious leader
  • E-cigarettes containing tobacco
  • Animal parts and live plants without permits

Allowed with conditions

  • Medicines — unregistered medicines need NMRA personal-use authorisation (prescription, request letter, ID; max 100 doses)
  • Mobile phones, radios and communication devices — Telecommunications Regulatory Commission licence
  • Drones — licence required
  • Animal products and plants — permits from the respective authorities

Shipping from India to Sri Lanka — questions

Is there a package forwarding company that gives me an Indian address and ships to Sri Lanka?

Yes. India Rabbit is a package forwarding company that gives you a free Indian address at its warehouse in Kerala, with your own suite code. You shop Indian websites to it, and it combines your parcels into one box and ships them to Sri Lanka, typically 4 to 6 business days after dispatch.

Can I get Indian products delivered to Sri Lanka when the shop only ships within India?

Yes. Order to your India Rabbit address as an ordinary customer in India. We receive the parcel at our warehouse in Kerala, hold it free for 30 days while your other orders arrive, and forward everything to Sri Lanka in one box.

How do I shop from India and ship to Sri Lanka?

Sign up free and you get an Indian delivery address in Kerala with your own suite code. Use it as the shipping address at checkout on Amazon.in, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Ajio and most other Indian stores. When your parcels reach us we let you know, and you choose when to have them forwarded to Sri Lanka.

How much does it cost to send a parcel from India to Sri Lanka per kg?

From India to Sri Lanka, a 1 kg parcel starts at ₹3,800 (about LKR 13,293), and the rate per kilo falls as the box fills: about ₹1,860 (about LKR 6,507) per kg for a 5 kg box and ₹1,820 (about LKR 6,367) per kg for 20 kg, on Premium, with GST and payment charges included. What you pay depends on the finished weight and size after we repack your parcels into one; the table on this page shows indicative totals by parcel weight for Premium and Economy, with our handling, GST and payment charges included. The calculator gives the exact figure for your box.

Can I send a courier from India to Sri Lanka with India Rabbit?

Yes. Order from Indian shops to your India Rabbit address, or have family in India send things there by any domestic courier. We receive and photograph every parcel, combine everything into one box and ship it to Sri Lanka with tracking, typically 4 to 6 business days after dispatch.

What is the cheapest way to ship from India to Sri Lanka?

Order everything to your Indian address first and have it forwarded as one box. International shipping is charged per shipment on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so five parcels sent separately cost far more than the same goods repacked together. Where we run an Economy lane to Sri Lanka, it is cheaper again than direct courier in exchange for a few more days in transit.

How long does delivery to Sri Lanka take?

Typically 4 to 6 business days from the day your consolidated shipment leaves our warehouse, plus customs clearance at your end. Time in storage before you request shipping does not count towards that.

How much can I save by combining parcels?

International shipping is priced on weight and size, so five separate parcels cost far more than one. We repack everything into a single box and strip unnecessary packaging to cut volumetric weight. The saving scales with how bulky the original packaging was — up to 80% on bulky retail boxes, considerably less on small dense items.

Will I pay customs duty in Sri Lanka?

Bona fide gifts and personal items are free of customs duty up to LKR 15,000 and of VAT up to LKR 10,000; other levies still apply. The recipient pays charges before release. If Customs holds a parcel, the recipient is notified and must attend the examination in person. Sri Lanka Customs never asks for payment by SMS, email or phone call. Duty is charged by the customs authority in Sri Lanka, not by India Rabbit.

What can I not forward to Sri Lanka?

Prohibited for Sri Lanka: Narcotics and psychotropic substances; Pornographic material; Publications that insult any religion or religious leader; E-cigarettes containing tobacco; Animal parts and live plants without permits; Cash, currency, cheques, bullion, and loose precious stones. Check before you order.

How long will you hold my parcels?

30 days free from the day each parcel arrives, which is enough to finish a sale-season order and send it all together. Storage can be extended for a fee if you need longer.

Do I need an Indian card or phone number?

For most stores your own card works fine. Where a store insists on an Indian payment method, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you what is possible.
