Buying Indian pickles from India when you live abroad
Vegetarian pickles travel almost anywhere. Meat and fish pickles do not. Order the brand you grew up with to your Kerala address and we send it on.
Yes — you can buy Indian pickles from Indian shops even if they do not deliver to your country. India Rabbit gives you a free delivery address in India. You order to that address as an ordinary domestic customer, we receive and hold the parcel free for 30 days, combine it with anything else you buy, and forward the lot to you.
Why this is hard to buy where you are
Indian shops abroad stock a few national pickle brands. What people miss is the regional range: Kerala kadumanga and lime pickle, puli inji, garlic pickle, Andhra avakaya, and the small makers back home. Vegetarian pickles in sealed jars or pouches are among the easiest foods to send. Meat, fish and prawn pickles are a different matter: the EU and the UK do not allow meat from India in personal parcels, and most countries treat fish pickle as a fishery product.

| Andhra pickle makers | Priya and others sell avakaya, gongura and lemon pickle in sealed packs. |

Many pickle makers deliver only inside India. A Kerala address makes your order local, and it reaches our warehouse quickly.
What to check before you order
- Choose vegetarian pickles for Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand: mango, lime, ginger, garlic, gongura.
- Buy sealed jars or pouches with a printed ingredients list. An English label makes customs simpler.
- Oil-based pickles leak. Tell us on the pre-alert and we pack them separately from clothes.
- Check the date. A pickle that takes two weeks to reach you should have months left on it.
Weight, customs and getting it here intact
Weight
Heavy for its size: a 400 g jar weighs close to half a kilo with the glass. Pouches are lighter.
Volume
Compact, so it ships on its real weight.
Customs
Declared as packaged pickles, with the main ingredient. Vegetarian pickles are allowed in most countries in personal quantities. Meat pickles are refused by the EU and the UK, and fish and prawn pickles are restricted in many countries. Check what your destination allows.
Condition
We seal each jar in a bag and pack pickles away from clothing and books, so a leak stays in the bag.
Indian Pickles by country
Indian Pickles to the UK
British Indian grocers carry the national pickle brands, but the regional range is thin: Kerala kadumanga, puli inji and lime pickle, Andhra avakaya and gongura, and the small makers' jars people grew up with. Vegetarian pickles in sealed, labelled jars travel to the UK. Great Britain does not permit personal imports of meat or dairy from India, so beef pickle stays out of the box, and fish and prawn pickles are restricted. For goods up to £135, UK VAT at 20% is normally charged by the seller at checkout; above £135, the courier collects VAT and any duty before delivery.

Indian Pickles to Ireland
Ireland's Malayali families in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway find a few national pickle brands in Asian shops, but rarely the Kerala ones: kadumanga, puli inji, lime and garlic pickle from home. Vegetarian pickles in sealed, labelled jars travel to Ireland. The EU does not allow personal imports of meat or dairy from outside the EU, so beef pickle stays out of the box, and fish and prawn pickles are restricted. Import VAT of 23% applies to almost all goods, and since 1 July 2026 parcels up to €150 also pay a €3 customs duty per item category; normal duty applies above €150. The recipient usually pays before delivery.
