Shop Indian stores from Tanzania, delivered to your door
Tanzania’s community of Indian descent, around sixty thousand people of mostly Gujarati and Kutchi trading origin, has been part of Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar for generations. Indian groceries are available; regional clothing, books and festival goods are not.

Why one box beats five parcels
International shipping is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, and every parcel carries that cost separately. Five 1 kg parcels to Tanzania are priced as five shipments; repacked into one 4 kg box — packaging stripped, which is where the fifth kilo goes — they are priced as one. That is the difference between the 1 kg row above multiplied by five and the 5 kg row on its own.
Premium or Economy to Tanzania?
Premium is a direct courier with end-to-end tracking and priority customs handling. Economy is consolidated and takes a few days longer for a lower price. Typical transit to Tanzania is 4 to 6 business days from dispatch; Economy sits at the longer end of that. Both are tracked. More on choosing Premium or Economy and on how long shipping from India takes.

Shipping from India to Tanzania — questions
Is there a package forwarding company that gives me an Indian address and ships to Tanzania?
Yes. India Rabbit is a package forwarding company that gives you a free Indian address at its warehouse in Kerala, with your own suite code. You shop Indian websites to it, and it combines your parcels into one box and ships them to Tanzania, typically 4 to 6 business days after dispatch.
Can I get Indian products delivered to Tanzania when the shop only ships within India?
Yes. Order to your India Rabbit address as an ordinary customer in India. We receive the parcel at our warehouse in Kerala, hold it free for 30 days while your other orders arrive, and forward everything to Tanzania in one box.
How do I shop from India and ship to Tanzania?
Sign up free and you get an Indian delivery address in Kerala with your own suite code. Use it as the shipping address at checkout on Amazon.in, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Ajio and most other Indian stores. When your parcels reach us we let you know, and you choose when to have them forwarded to Tanzania.
How much does it cost to send a parcel from India to Tanzania per kg?
From India to Tanzania, a 1 kg parcel starts at ₹7,950 (about TZS 221,701), and the rate per kilo falls as the box fills: about ₹3,640 (about TZS 101,508) per kg for a 5 kg box and ₹2,230 (about TZS 62,188) per kg for 20 kg, on Premium, with GST and payment charges included. We charge in rupees; the TZS figures are approximate, at this week's exchange rate. Forwarding one box to Tanzania runs about ₹7,000–9,000 for 1 kg and ₹16,500–20,000 for 5 kg by direct courier. Ranges worked out 2026-10-31, not quotes, and duty at your end is separate. What you pay depends on the finished weight and size after we repack your parcels into one; the table on this page shows indicative totals by parcel weight for Premium and Economy, with our handling, GST and payment charges included. The calculator gives the exact figure for your box.
Can I send a courier from India to Tanzania with India Rabbit?
Yes. Order from Indian shops to your India Rabbit address, or have family in India send things there by any domestic courier. We receive and photograph every parcel, combine everything into one box and ship it to Tanzania with tracking, typically 4 to 6 business days after dispatch.
What is the cheapest way to ship from India to Tanzania?
Order everything to your Indian address first and have it forwarded as one box. International shipping is charged per shipment on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so five parcels sent separately cost far more than the same goods repacked together. Where we run an Economy lane to Tanzania, it is cheaper again than direct courier in exchange for a few more days in transit.
How long does delivery to Tanzania take?
Typically 4 to 6 business days from the day your consolidated shipment leaves our warehouse, plus customs clearance at your end. Time in storage before you request shipping does not count towards that.
How much can I save by combining parcels?
International shipping is priced on weight and size, so five separate parcels cost far more than one. We repack everything into a single box and strip unnecessary packaging to cut volumetric weight. The saving scales with how bulky the original packaging was — up to 80% on bulky retail boxes, considerably less on small dense items.
Will I pay customs duty in Tanzania?
Duty 0–35% under the EAC tariff (medicines 0%), VAT 18% on the mainland and 15% in Zanzibar, a 2% railway development levy and 0.6% customs processing fee. No duty-free threshold for parcels. Clearance goes through a licensed agent on TANCIS; the recipient pays before release. Duty is charged by the customs authority in Tanzania, not by India Rabbit.
What can I not forward to Tanzania?
Prohibited for Tanzania: Plastic carrier and packing bags of any thickness (mainland); Soaps and cosmetics containing mercury; Counterfeit goods, narcotics and pornography; Seditious material and tear gas; Matches made with white phosphorus; Cash, currency, cheques, bullion, and loose precious stones. Check before you order.
How long will you hold my parcels?
30 days free from the day each parcel arrives, which is enough to finish a sale-season order and send it all together. Storage can be extended for a fee if you need longer.
Do I need an Indian card or phone number?
For most stores your own card works fine. Where a store insists on an Indian payment method, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you what is possible.
