Import VAT starts at the first pound

There is no small-value relief on goods arriving in the UK. VAT applies from the first pound of declared value, and for consignments over the customs duty threshold, duty can apply on top. Budget for it as part of the cost, and declare the value accurately.

What UK cosmetics rules do and do not mean for you

The UK Cosmetics Regulation governs products placed on the market in Britain — it puts obligations on whoever sells or imports for sale, including safety assessments and a responsible person. Bringing a reasonable quantity in for your own use is a different thing. The practical upshot: buy what you will use, and do not buy Indian cosmetics in quantity intending to resell them here, because that is the activity the regulation is actually about.

No perfume, no deodorant spray, no aerosol, no nail polish or remover — the same everywhere, carrier's rule, nothing to do with the UK.
