Paying Indian Stores from Abroad
The order is in the basket and the payment page wants an Indian card or a UPI ID. Here are the ways round it that actually exist, and the one thing we cannot do for you.
How do I pay on an Indian shopping site if I live abroad and have no Indian card or UPI? Start with the store's own payment page: some Indian stores take cards issued abroad. Flipkart's says it accepts cards issued in India and 21 other countries. If your card is refused, an NRI with an NRE or NRO account may be able to use UPI on an international mobile number, if their bank supports it, or a family member in India can pay for you. India Rabbit does not buy on your behalf; once the order is paid, it comes to your free address at our warehouse in Kerala and we ship it to you.
Check the store's payment page first
Indian stores do not all treat cards from abroad the same way, and the rules change, so the store's own payment page is the place to look before you assume anything. Flipkart's payments page, for example, says it accepts Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express cards issued in India and 21 other countries. It does not list which countries, so the quickest test is to try your card at checkout. The same page says cards issued abroad cannot be used for some things, such as wallet top-ups.
If you are an NRI with an NRE or NRO account
In January 2023 the National Payments Corporation of India allowed UPI on NRE and NRO accounts linked to an international mobile number from ten countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar. Whether you can use it depends on your bank and your UPI app, so ask your bank. If it works for you, you pay the store exactly as a customer in India would.
If someone in India can pay for you
A parent, a sibling or a friend in India can place the order, or pay for one you have chosen, with the delivery address set to your India Rabbit address. You settle up with them however you normally do. The address carries your own suite code, so the parcel is matched to your account when it reaches us, whoever paid for it.
What we do not do
India Rabbit does not buy on your behalf at the moment: there is no personal shopper service, and we do not pay stores for you. If a store insists on an Indian payment method and none of the routes above works, message us on WhatsApp before you order and we will tell you honestly whether there is a way.
Paying for the shipping is the easy part
Once your parcels are at our warehouse and you ask us to ship them, you pay us online by international credit or debit card, UPI or netbanking, through Razorpay. Prices are in rupees with an approximate conversion in your currency. Several orders from different stores go in one box, which costs far less than sending them separately; the calculator gives the price to your country before you commit.
