Ship Household Items from India

The things you cannot buy abroad, or cannot buy at an Indian price: cookware, bedding, brassware and the specific kitchen gadget nobody outside India makes.

Can I ship a pressure cooker from India? Yes, an empty pressure cooker is an ordinary item. Anything pressurised, aerosol or flammable that might travel with it is not.

What people actually send

Stainless steel cookware and pressure cookers, idli and appam moulds, dosa tawas, uruli and brassware, kitchen tools, cotton bedsheets and towels, mats and curtains, and puja items. Some of it does not exist abroad; the rest exists at three times the price in an Indian grocery shop.

Where people buy it: Amazon.in and Flipkart for most of it, brands such as Prestige, Pigeon, Hawkins and Vinod for cookware, and Fabindia and Jaypore for handloom linen and brass.

Weigh it before you buy it

Stainless steel is dense and heavy. Bedding is the opposite problem — light and enormously bulky, so it is charged on volume. Get a shipping estimate before you order, not after.

Electricals need thought

India runs on 230V, 50Hz with a Type D or Type M plug. That suits most of Europe, the UK, the Gulf and Australia with an adapter, and does not suit North America at all without a transformer.

What cannot go

Aerosols, flammable liquids, paints and solvents are refused. Anything with a battery is refused. Gas cylinders and pressurised items are refused. A pressure cooker itself is fine; the cleaning spray you meant to send with it is not.

Packing for the journey

Ceramic, glass and brass need real protection, and we pack for that. Tell us what is fragile when you request shipping. Nesting cookware inside cookware and filling the void with soft goods is how a household shipment gets its weight down.

Questions

Will Indian appliances work in my country?

India uses 230V, 50Hz with Type D or M plugs. That works in the UK, Europe, the Gulf, Australia and New Zealand with an adapter. In the USA and Canada, on 110V, most Indian appliances will not work without a transformer.

Is it cheaper to ship kitchenware or buy it locally?

It depends on weight. Stainless steel is dense and freight is charged by weight, so ask for an estimate before ordering a large set. Lighter speciality items are usually well worth it.

Why is bedding so expensive to ship?

Because it is bulky. Carriers charge on volumetric weight — the space the box occupies — so a light, large parcel is billed as if it were heavy. Compressing and repacking helps considerably.

Can you pack fragile brass and ceramic properly?

Yes. Tell us what is breakable when you request shipping and we will pack around it.
