Amazon Global Selling, and the alternative
Amazon Global Selling is a real route to overseas customers and for some sellers it is the right one. It is also a registered-exporter programme, which is where most small sellers stop reading.
Where the programme fits
If you are already a registered exporter with volume, a proper catalogue and the appetite for marketplace fees and inventory planning, Amazon Global Selling puts you in front of an audience nothing else matches.
Where it stops working is at the other end of the scale: a seller with a few dozen orders a month, direct customers who found them on Instagram or by word of mouth, and no registration. The paperwork expectations are built for the first case.
The two ways a parcel leaves here
Everything on this page turns on which of these you are, so it is worth settling first. There are two, and we run both.
If your business is registered as an exporter
You have a GSTIN, an IEC and an AD code. Your parcel ships as your export: it goes under your own IEC, and you authorise our carrier to file the shipping bill (CSB-V) on your behalf. You pay the freight, and the commercial invoice carries your business.
If your business is not registered as an exporter
We call this the simple route, and it is the one most Instagram sellers, boutiques and small shops start on. On this route you do not export at all. Your customer abroad receives the parcel as their own, under our personal forwarding terms — the same terms any individual uses to send their own belongings home. You book the shipment here, put your own bill for the order inside the parcel, and send it to our warehouse. We weigh it, photograph it, and send your customer a link to pay the shipping. As soon as they pay, it goes, and they get tracking in your name.
Selling direct instead, or as well
Most of the sellers we ship for are doing both: a marketplace for reach, and direct orders for margin. The direct orders are the ones that need a way out of India that does not assume a registered exporter, and that is the gap we fill. Nothing here stops you using a marketplace for the rest.
What we need, either way
Your bill for the order inside the parcel, an honest description and value, and your customer name and email at booking so we can send them tracking in your name. If you are registered, tell us and your parcels ship as your export under your own IEC.
Where to start
Open a business account and tell us what you sell. We call every new business on WhatsApp within a working day, usually to settle exactly the question this page is about, and you are on the right route before your first parcel moves.
Questions
Do I need an IEC for Amazon Global Selling?
Registered sellers ship as their own export under their IEC, and unregistered sellers use our simple route, where the customer receives the parcel as their own.
Can I use you alongside a marketplace?
Yes, and most sellers do. The marketplace handles its own fulfilment; we handle the direct orders that come to you from Instagram, WhatsApp or your own site.
Is this cheaper than a marketplace programme?
It is a different shape rather than simply cheaper. You pay freight on actual weighed weight with no marketplace commission, but you also do your own selling. For a few dozen direct orders a month that usually works out well.
