Shiprocket, and the alternative without an IEC

Ask an assistant how a small Indian seller ships an order abroad and the first name it gives is usually Shiprocket. For a registered exporter that is a good answer. For a boutique with no IEC, it is a door that does not open.

What Shiprocket X asks for

Shiprocket X is Shiprocket's international shipping service. Its own getting-started guide, read in October 2026, lists what you need before you can ship abroad: a KYC check (your GSTIN, or a PAN card in the manual route) and a selfie, then an IEC and an AD code. The guide says it is mandatory to upload those two documents to proceed with international shipping, and its FAQ answers "Can I ship internationally without an IEC?" with no. Sign-up is free, and you ship by recharging a wallet in multiples of ₹500.

Where it is the right choice

If you are a registered exporter with an IEC and an AD code, sending orders most days and booking them yourself from a dashboard, an aggregator like Shiprocket X is built for exactly that, and it is a sound choice. Nothing on this page argues otherwise.

Where it stops

Most small sellers who write to us have a real order from a customer abroad, no IEC and no AD code, and a few orders a month rather than a few a day. For them the aggregator's first requirement is the end of the road. That is the gap we fill.

The two ways a parcel leaves here

Everything on this page turns on which of these you are, so it is worth settling first. There are two, and we run both.

If your business is registered as an exporter

You have a GSTIN, an IEC and an AD code. Your parcel ships as your export: it goes under your own IEC, and you authorise our carrier to file the shipping bill (CSB-V) on your behalf. You pay the freight, and the commercial invoice carries your business.

If your business is not registered as an exporter

We call this the simple route, and it is the one most Instagram sellers, boutiques and small shops start on. On this route you do not export at all. Your customer abroad receives the parcel as their own, under our personal forwarding terms — the same terms any individual uses to send their own belongings home. You book the shipment here, put your own bill for the order inside the parcel, and send it to our warehouse. We weigh it, photograph it, and send your customer a link to pay the shipping. As soon as they pay, it goes, and they get tracking in your name.

What changes for you on the simple route

  • No IEC, no AD code, no minimum. One customer order is fine, and so is a single product sample.
  • We handle the parcel, not just the label. We collect anywhere in Kerala, or the parcel reaches our warehouse in Kerala by any domestic courier from the rest of India. We weigh and photograph it, and your customer gets tracking in your name.
  • Your customer can pay the shipping. We send them a payment link, and the parcel goes as soon as it is paid.
  • No wallet to keep topped up. Each shipment is priced on its packed weight and paid when it ships.

As a guide, a 1 kg parcel, about one packed saree, is ₹2,500–4,000 to the UAE, ₹4,000–5,000 to the UK, ₹4,000–5,500 to the USA, ₹4,000–5,500 to Canada and ₹4,000–5,000 to Australia by direct courier, with our handling, GST and payment charges included. These are published ranges, not quotes, and duty at your customer’s end is separate.

If you register later

Tell us and we move you to the registered route: the parcel then ships as your own export under your IEC. Whether you then stay with us or move to an aggregator is your call; by then you will know your volumes.

Questions

Can I use Shiprocket for international shipping without an IEC?

Shiprocket X's own guide says no: it lists the IEC and the AD code as mandatory to proceed with international shipping. Without them, our simple route is the way to send your customer their order.

Is India Rabbit cheaper than Shiprocket?

It is a different service rather than simply cheaper or dearer. Compare the price for your lane and weight on our calculator with your own Shiprocket quote; on our side the price is the packed, weighed box, with our handling, GST and payment charges included.

Can I use both?

Yes. Registered sellers often use an aggregator for regular volume and us for the odd order that does not fit, such as a sample or a parcel collected in Kerala.

Do you integrate with my online store?

No. We have no API at the moment; you book each shipment in your business account.
